On December 20, DePauw University announced that Anne Harris, Vice President for Academic Affairs since 2015 and DePauw employee of more than 20 years, has accepted a job at Grinnell College in Iowa as their Vice President of Academic Affairs. In the interim, Dave Berque will serve as Vice President for Academic Affairs.
In an article published to DePauw’s website, Harris said, “I look forward to honoring the values and lessons learned at DePauw University with new colleagues and collaborators at Grinnell College, in its distinguished commitment to the liberal arts.”
Harris will start her work at Grinnell on July 1, 2019, but has already left her position with the University.
Of Harris, President Mark McCoy said, “We are proud of her accomplishments, thankful for her good work and, though we will miss her, we wish her every success.”
Berque, now the Interim Vice President of Academic Affairs, has worked as a professor of computer science at DePauw since 1992, and was serving as associate vice president for student academic life, dean of academic life and executive director of the Hubbard Center for Student Engagement while continuing to teach at DePauw.
“Dave’s long service to DePauw –- as a professor whose work has received national acclaim and as an administrator who has taken his commitment to an outstanding student experience to even greater levels – makes him a perfect fit for this interim role,” McCoy said.
The university plans to gather a committee and use the 19-20 academic year to conduct their search for a new VP. At his request, Berque will not be considered for the position in the long-term.
