Sophomore Lauren Hartzler led the field hockey team to victory with her first career collegiate hat trick against Notre Dame (2-1) last Saturday. Senior goalie Kelsey Troyer added ten saves to her record while her teammates, first-years Rachel Breslin and Skylar Hedgepath, scored twice more against Notre Dame to win the game with a 5-0 final. Men’s and Women’s Cross Country
The women’s cross country team came in second at the Eagle Cross Country Challenge at Bridgewater College with a total time of 1:30:57, coming in behind Bridgewater. Junior Elizabeth Nisly ran to first in the individual results of the 4K with a total time of 16:43 and an average mile of 6:43. Senior Laurie Serrell came in third, with a total time of 16:59 and an average mile of 6:49.
The men’s cross country team came in third at the Eagle Cross Country Challenge with a total time of 1:36:13, coming in behind Virginia Wesleyan and Bridgewater College.
First-year Isaac Alderfer came in second and had the fastest time for EMU in the individual results of the 5K, with a total time of 16:40 and an average mile of 5:21. After Alderfer was sophomore Justice Allen in 11th place, with a total time of 18:03 and an average mile of 5:48. The Royals took a loss in the ODAC opener against Virginia Wesleyan. Virginia Wesleyan took the game after three sets 20-25, 24-26, and 15-25. First-year Hannah Johnson scored ten kills and had a total of 15 digs, while senior Maria Yoder took five kills. After this loss, the volleyball team sits with a 2-5 overall record and a conference record of 0-1. The women’s volleyball team will play next at the Blue Jay Classic in Elizabethtown, Pa. on Friday, Sept. 14.
The men’s soccer team took a loss to William Peace in their last game. The final score was 0-3. In the first half, the men almost managed to tie the game with a shot by junior Joshua Chiquillo.
