On Saturday, Nov. 4, UWA football defeated the Blazers of Valdosta State to claim the GSC Championship title outright.
The win improved the Tigers to 8-2 overall and 7-1 in league play.
With this win, the Tigers are the only football team in the GSC to receive the conference crown. Before Saturday’s game, UWA could have had a multi-team tie with other GSC teams at their heels.
Valdosta played catch up from the start; UWA scored two touchdowns and a field goal in the first quarter.
Touchdowns did not stop there as the Tigers scored three more touchdowns making the final 38-14. Valdosta did not get closer than 10 points the whole game.
The Tigers are first in the conference and get the chance to extend their season into playoffs. The Tigers are ranked second in NCAA Super Region two just behind Wingate who is undefeated this season.
West Alabama finishes the regular season by hosting North Greenville on Saturday at Tiger Stadium. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
