The women’s basketball team was victorious this past weekend in Duluth beating St. Scholastica 71-49. St. Scholastica was desperately searching for their first victory of the season, but Augsburg’s depth was too much to handle. The Auggies finished with seven players scoring eight or more points.

Augsburg jumped out to a 12-0 advantage early and lead by as much as 32 points. Tamira Mclemore, Kaezha Wubben and Jazmyn Solseth all scored double-digit points, finishing with 13, 12 and 10 points respectively. Aiza Wilson continued her dominance off the bench, finishing with nine points while adding three assists and a blocked shot. Wilson also shot three-for-six from downtown and is currently ranked third in the MIAC conference in three-pointers made.

McLemore’s stellar play continued (averaging a team-best 14.7 PPG). McLemore was named the MIAC Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week for the second time in her career.

Augsburg went 26-of-59 from the field (44.1 percent), which was their best shooting performance of the season while St. Scholastica shot just 28.1 percent. Augsburg dominated on the glass with their second double-digit rebounding advantage of the season, leading the Saints 46-36 in that department. It was hard to find a flaw in the Auggies’ play except for their season high of 23 turnovers which created 14 points for the Saints. With the win, the Auggies sit on top of the MIAC conference with a 6-1 record.

Augsburg will face Concordia-Moorhead on Dec. 8 at Si Melby Hall at 1 p.m. The Cobbers are 4-3 and are still looking for their first conference win.
